MEN’S FASHION: SCOOP UP 3 ACCESSORIES TO MELT YOUR SUMMMER DELIGHT!

A true modern day gent knows that his, “Clothes Make The Man.” However, sometimes it’s hard to spend a fortune keeping up with all the latest fads to stay true to this notion. Girls, such as myself can update an outfit instanteously with accessories such as a statement necklace or pair of stunning heels. But for you guys? The options may seem very gray, and knowing what to tweak or to add on can leave one dazed. Well it’s a good thing, I have done my homework to save you money.  I found 3 accessories that you can scoop up like your favorite ice cream and melt your summer delight (love interest)!

SCOOP 1: BRACELETS
Over the past few years, men’s jewelry has transitioned from a fashion sin to an everyday wardrobe staple! Bracelets tend to be leading the way by a landslide, and are the easiest piece for the modern man to pull off. For a contemporary feel, I recommend nautical-inspired wrist wear, which is trending for 2014. If your style is more on the classic side, basic leather, woven and metal bracelets are timeless and can quickly add flavor to any ensemble. All of these materials are masculine and versatile, with minimalist versions looking just as good with a casual t-shirt and jean outfit as with a suit during the workweek.

SCOOP 2: FEDORA HAT
Hands down, hats are a key accessory for summer 2014! Of all the hats available, the gangster hat, commonly know as the fedora is my favorite hat for the modern day gent. Perhaps, the most versatile hat design that can be effortlessly worn dressed up or down. As metioned in the latter, the Fedora is often associated with gangsters and the Prohibition era, providing an easy modern day cool to any ensemble. Fedoras come in a wide variety of brim widths and crown types, and are obtainable in durable fabrics such as felt, wool, and straw.  The straw material is most suited to the warmer months of the year allowing your head to breath while offering protection from the sun too. Retailers offer this in a multitude of colors, so finding one that can fit seamlessly into your wardrobe should be easy as pie! Add a little spice to your date night style by wearing this next time with a tee and denim, and trust me when I say this, “It’s the perfect accessory to melt their heart!”

SCOOP 3: NECKERCHIEF
What can a man do to be stylish during the warmer months? I have an answer for you, the neckerchief! It’s the perfect go-to tool for you to create your own touch. Originally associated with the nonconformist counterculture that was the Bohemians, the neckerchief is known for it’s off beat sophistication. A true fashionisto will gravitate towards this piece due to its versatility of how it can be freely incorporated into any style of clothing. I recommend pairing it with a linen shirt and shorts, or even a plain t-shirt, and before you know that neckerchief will be your secret weapon to creating panache!

FASHION FEAST: 3 INGREDIENTS TO GET COOKING WITH THE COLOR BLOCK STYLE!

There are fashion trends that can be a little out there like Miley Cyrus’s see through fishnet dress or Lady Gaga’s shocking heels.  Then there are some trends that are so spot on that I can’t wait to dive head first in! This month’s favorite? COLORBLOCKING! Over the past few years both celebrities and designers are going Goo goo ga ga for colorblocking! This trend is a fashionista’s dream come true; unlocking the true Picasso in each and every one of you! But chances are, as much as you love color blocking you may have not mastered this trend or may be down right intimidated to try it yourself. Get ready to gorge your eyes on this season’s fashion feast- color blocking! This is one recipe if done right will not only get your girlfriends talking, but few guys heads turning too! On the surface, color blocking may seem like a free-for-all but there are 3 key ingredients to get cooking in style. Read on to produce the most chic fashion feast this summer!

INGREDIENT 1: DON’T ADD MORE THAN 3 COLORS
It’s best to stick to two or three colors when applying the color block style. Too many colors will often times make you look too busy.  If you have more than three colors you often lose focus from your look which results in an unbalanced design. Remember like art and applying make up, the use of colors are supposed to enhance your look and brighten your skin complexion. If you wear too much you might end up looking like an art experiment!

STYLE TIP: PICK ONE DOMINANT COLOR
The best way to start the color blocking process when using separate pieces is to choose one dominant color and then use the others to embellish it. The dominant color should be one that attracts attention, and complements your skin tone. The other colors you add will either be to contrast or complement the dominant color. This allows for you to build your look with ease.

INGREDIENT TWO:  READY TO GO BATCH
Who doesn’t love a ready to go batch of cookie dough, I know I do! Especially when all you have to do is set the oven, bake, and your good to go Bon Appetite! Now take this concept and apply it to ready to wear color block items. The most commonly worn color block fashion staple are ready to go dresses. However, if dresses aren’t your thing then reach for a top or  skirt.

STYLE TIP: 1. COLOR POP
When choosing a color blocked item choose a color in an article of clothing that is definitely going to pop against your skin tone. I did exactly that by choosing a bright blue as my primary color, with white border on tip of the dress.

STYLE TIP 2: MINIMALIST
Any color block item that has swirls of bright colors can be quite noticeable, so the best designs to look for are simple.  The minimalistic approach goes in theory with color block fashion trend this season. The use of more elaborate and complex designs with bright colors can be harder to pull off and often times resulting in fashion faux pas. So if you decide to take the plunge with this trend, shop for simple styles.  Since I decided to wear a dress, I stuck to a simple silhouette in a  strapless a-line style. Other similar styles include any A-line, straight cut, fit and flare, body con, or sheath silhouette.

.
INGREDIENT 3: COLOR WHEEL
In the culinary world, expert chefs are taking spices from all over the world and creating spectacular gourmet dishes, similarly in fashion, designers are using bright hues taken from the opposite sides of the color wheel to create amazing ensembles. In order to create a perfect fashion feast with this trend, it’s imperative that you understand the basics of the Color Wheel. These components are complimentary and analogous colors.  Complementary colors are opposite each other on a basic color wheel. This color combining method works well if you want to make something standout. Please use this method wisely because combos can be harsh to the eye if not done right. On the other hand, the analogous color schemes use colors that are next to each other on the color wheel. This color combo approach is more harmonious and pleasing to the eye.

STYLE TIP: PAINT ON THE ACCESSORIES
No cake is completely done, until the decadent frosting is painted on! Likewise, no solid color item or basic color blocked article of clothing is finished until the accessories are painted on. This by far the easiest way to make a statement with color blocking. Since, I picked a rather basic style dress I was able to incorporate another color through the accessories.  Since blue is next to green in the color wheel, I used mint green earrings and a mint colored strappy heel to highlight the silhouette of the blue dress.

MEN’S FASHION: SPLASH INTO THE TOP 3 MEN SWIMSUIT TRENDS FOR 2014

Are you ready to make a big splash? Don’t let anyone fool you that making a splash in style is an easy feat to do!  Choosing a stylish and well fitting bathing suit to make your debut splash in can be a tough decision for you guys, too!  It’s not just us gals that sweat this process. Courtesy of Celebrities like Daniel Craig, David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Michael Phelps make rocking the perfect swimsuit look oh so flawless, however you don’t have to be a celebrity or even have abs of steel to make a statement. Before you dig up your old, chlorine faded swimsuit for one last run in the sun, please get ready and set to get on board with the notion, “Out With The Old, In With The New.” The men's swimwear market parallels this concept by the ever-changing market meeting consumers yearly with an array of new styles to choose from. So what are you waiting for? Get ready to make a splash into the top 3 men swimsuit trends for 2014!

TREND 1: SHORT SWIM SHORTS
As made famous by Daniel Craig in the Bonds movie, this is the best option for showing off a nice physique. So many of you guys may be afraid to wear this trend, however designers are making this more masculine in men’s fashion. These new short swim shorts tend not to extend past mid-thigh, which has other advantages like showing off athletic figures and well-built legs as well as drying quicker than traditional board shorts. Be prepared to see men from all over wearing the cropped nylon short. It’s a huge hit with designers, retailers and fashion bloggers. These are highly reminiscent of old-school running shorts with curved hems and a cut that finishes no lower than mid-thigh.

STYLE TIP: When shopping for this style go for straighter, cleaner lines. There'll be less material flapping around your legs to break open or shift when you sit.

TREND 2: THE TAILORED SWIMSHORT
This is a perfect short for not only young men, but men of all ages too! Over the years the cut of this silhouette has gotten gradually shorter finishing a couple of inches above the knee, rather today they are hitting closer to mid-thigh. It’s best to stay clear of many tailored styles that contain traditional elastic drawstring waistbands, because they often leave too much fabric around the legs. This can many times result in a poorly fitted pair of shorts, so avoid this!

STYLE TIP: Keep your eye out for styles that have side adjusters.  Although this used to be only available for premium brands, they are now available at every price point, from street to designer.

TREND 3: BOARD SHORTS
Slip into a pair of sporty men's board shorts and get ready to surf the summer away. When in doubt, always opt with the classic board short. It’s still a guy’s favorite “go to” pair of shorts to wear to the beach or pool.  Commonly this fashion staple has been associated with younger men, however there is no reason why older men cannot rock a stylish pair of board shorts. Take a cue from celebrities like Hugh Jackman, Gerard Butler, and Matthew McConaughey, proving that board shorts are not solely reserved for youngsters.  Today, designs are being cut slightly shorter, and slimmer through the leg removing longer, baggier styles.

STYLE TIP:  When shopping for a modern version of board shorts  I recommend going for flat-front trunks with a velcro fly and a lace tie.

STYLE TIP FOR CHOOSING THE RIGHT COLORS/PATTERNS:
Swimsuit shorts can easily be integrated as part of a summer outfit, offering you versatility. If you are looking for a swim short that is versatile and can adapt to multiple occasions, stick to solid versions in classic hues like navy, charcoal, khaki, white or black, On the other the spectrum, if you want to make a statement at the pool, or are simply looking to jazz up your swimsuit collection, printed and patterned versions are still very much on trend.

HEEL APPEAL: THEY REALLY DO A FASHIONISTA GOOD !

Heels are to a fashionista, as milk is for your body. Not literally, but similar to the acclaimed tagline, “Milk Does a Body Good,” so does a new pair of heels every season or two, does wonders to a fashionista’s wardrobe. While drinking milk provides amazing benefits to our bodies, on the contrary wearing heels can bring quite the opposite effects-tight, sore, uncomfortable, and occasionally down right dangerous, resulting in sometimes back, knee, and foot pain.  So the question becomes why are we so heel obsessed knowing the possible downside. I can tell you! Because women from all over the world, including myself can’t get enough of this feel good item.  Shows like “Sex in the City” and “Real Housewives” feed into this frenzy showing how heels are an instant game changer in fashion and really do any fashionista good! They draw attention, elongate your legs, add height, make you appear thinner, enhance confidence, and can add a “wow factor” to any look.  If you’re a slave to high heels or just need a pair for an upcoming event, I included some practical tips below to make sure you rock the perfect heels this season!

TIP 1: VERSATILITY -COLOR AND STYLE
Choose a color and style of a shoe that can go with at least three or more outfits within your wardrobe. As in the picture above, I wore a mint strappy heel with three different style dresses. From classic white to lemon and even tye dye print the shoe complemented each of these looks.

TIP 2: SEASONAL
With each season brings new trends. Ironically, buying a new heel seasonally can save you money within your wardrobe, because of the instant update that it adds to your existing pieces. In order to do this, buy a heel in mind that is a bit trendy, and speaks the season. I did exactly that by choosing a pastel color shoe, since pastels are huge this season, and opting for a strappy style since it’s summer time.

TIP 3: GET THE RIGHT FIT
Like anything in fashion it’s all the fit! This is specifically true with the heel. It’s important that your heel is not too small or too big. Take your time at the store trying them on. A little tip that has worked for me is taking a two-minute walk around the store to see how your feet and body feel.

TIP 4: COMFORT
Forget about the idea that you have to sacrifice comfort for style completely, instead manufacturers and designers today are coming out with heels that stylish and comfortable. Jessica Simpson’s shoe line is a classic example that redefines this idea. I recommend that you find a style with a slight platform under the toe area that tend to be more comfortable as they minimize the angle and pressure on the ball of the foot. Even though the shoe I wore was strappy heel, it had a platform so I was able to wear it comfortably all night long!

TIP 5: AVOID BUYER’S REMORSE
We all have bought something at one point in our life, and we looked at the item and thought, “What was I thinking, or better yet what planet was I on?” Unfortunately, I am quite familiar with this feeling, and it wasn’t until I had an epiphany 7 years ago during spring-cleaning when I was throwing away half my closet that I had finally learned my lesson.  It’s important to keep in mind three factors to avoid buyer’s remorse- price, trends, and versatility. Using these three factors when purchasing any heel or fashion item will prevent you from experiencing regret later down the road. Avoid anything too over the top, too trendy, too expensive, and that can’t be worn with at least 35% of your existing wardrobe.

FASHION FLASHBLACK: 3 MODERN TRENDS TO ROCK RETRO

This season designers are having a major aha moment with the retro look. From the high waisted bottoms of the 50’s to the bold geometric prints of the 60’s everyone is getting their hands and feet wet with this style, including myself. I am absolutely in love with retro themed trends for the summer. There is something to be said for a modern day fashionista that can rock a retro look. Like everything in fashion, styles get recycled so before you say, “Been there, done that”, or fear looking like a film extra on a movie set, here are 3 trends to inject retro style into your modern wardrobe. Read on to become one step closer to becoming that modern day pin up girl!

TREND 1: THE RETRO PLAYSUIT
Forget about the trendy jumpsuit this summer, the latest one-piece wonder is fresh and oh so easy to rock! The retro playsuit was popular from the summer style clothing of the 1930’s, 1940’s, and 1950’s. Those who don’t have the time to plan their instgram worthy outfits from head to toe will love this trend, which is a no brainer- as “Does this skirt match this top.” Originally worn as a cover-up over swimsuits at the beach and pool, now designers have retro-nized the romper this summer from florals to paisleys  to nautical there is a flavor for everyone to sample.

STYLE TIP: HIGHLIGHT THROUGH THE ACCESSORIES
In order to capture the essence of the retro playsuit it’s important highlight your look through the accessories. I did exactly that by adding a thin red belt to break up the pattern of my romper. Rather than opting for a thin heel, I chose a thick silver heel to play up the iconic retro style from the 1950’s. By adding silver heels over the color white made the romper appear dressier. Finally, since I highlighted the romper with the shoes and the belt, I did not need to play up any jewelry, so I kept the earrings simple by wearing white floral studs to create pop to the color white in the pattern.

TREND 2: POP ON A CROP TOP
This summer is all about taking a risk, and what better trend to do this with than the good old crop top! If you don’t have abs of steel, a crop top may seem like a bad choice, lucky for many us, designers this year have reinvented the crop top in a variety of shapes, and lengths, from super short to skimming the waist. The trend generally targets the younger generation, but paired with high waisted skirts and pants and more conservative cuts, older generations are embracing this trend. For those of you who want to test drive this trend out without committing, try choosing a full-length top that you already own, such as button up and tie it up and wear it with a midi skirt or pair of jeans.

STYLE TIP: PLAY WITH PROPORTIONS AND PATTERNS: Go ahead and play with sizes and cuts of crop tops. There's no need to always have a slim fitting crop top for every bottom that is wide. Dive in head first with this trend and get your creative juices flowing by pairing roomier separates in clashing patterns.

TREND 3: SLIP INTO HIGH WAISTED SHORTS
So, while crop tops may be the summer’s leading scorer, the high waisted shorts are bringing in all the assists.  High waisted shorts are the easiest way to inject a bit of retro into your modern wardrobe. From denim to lace to even sequins there is an option for every fashionista. High waisted bottoms not only appeal to women of all ages, but also to women of all shapes. The amazing thing about this trend is that most bottoms are also wide-legged and loose-fitting which allows to conceal flaws.

STYLE TIP: IT’S ALL ABOUT THE FIT
High waisted bottoms are also a solution to every girl’s dread: the muffin top. The key is finding bottoms that hit your natural waist and hug your hips.  Once you find the perfect fit, adding a skinny belt to draw attention to your high waisted style, or to emphasize your upper body and cinch your waist is definitely attention grabber!

TO DYE FOR? 4 STYLISH WAYS TO DIP INTO TYE DYE

Whether you dig tie dye or not, designers this year are having a major aha moment with this technique.  Long gone are the days where the phrase may conjure up images of summer camp, arts and crafts, or Grateful Dead fans, today tie dye has evolved into a chic and refreshing part of fashion culture. One thing that is absolutely certain is that this trend is ultra hip, and when worn right can be a showstopper!  From iconic 60s festival wear to tattered 90s street style, this vibrant and totally groovy dying process has again twisted its way to the top of becoming fashion’s most wanted print. Tie dye’s modern rebirth is still splashing colors and designs of every kind, so gorge your eyes on 4 stylish ways to wear this avant-garde trend. Read on to find out how you can bring peace, happiness, and love to your summer wardrobe...

LOOK #1 OFF DUTY TOP
On those off duty days, forget the white t-shirts, or the solid color camis, why not switch the roster around and go with a tye dye shirt. A tye dye shirt does not have to look grungy or festival inspired, instead it can be downright chic.
DAY: Wear with skinny jeans or shorts.
NIGHT: Wear it with asymmetrical mini skirt and pair a moto style jacket, and open toed cutout booties to add some edge.
STYLE TIP: MONOCHROMATIC COLOR SCHEMES: When looking for the off duty top it’s best to go for patterns that use only one or two colors. This provides for more versatility and simplicity within your look, whereas going for swirls of multi-colored tye dye can be more funky, and harder to style for the everyday look.

LOOK #2 BOARDROOM SKIRT AND BLOUSE/TOP
Move over Donald Trump, and make way for a new rising star! What better way to move up the corporate ladder in style and make your mark than wearing tye-dye.  Dressing to go to work with this trend has never looked so fun, and possibilities are endless. Remember whatever key piece you choose will be the focal point that you build your look around.
DAY:  Go for a pleated or full skirt and complete your look with a solid neutral blouse.
NIGHT: Whether you rock out in a mini skirt, and pair with a sleeveless top. Another option is to try a loose flowy maxi style skirt, and pair with a crop top you can’t go wrong! Finish your look off with a neutral wedge and a cuff and your good to go!
STYLE TIP: OMBRE PATTERN: The term “ombre”, means color that graduates from light to dark. This technique has evolved in more of a stark contrast in dip dyed clothing. Of all the dye techniques, the ombre pattern is by far the easiest to wear to the office. For summer, pair with white, crème, or lighter solids with your ombre choice. Add a pop of color in the accessories or the shoe from either a color from the ombre pattern or a contrasting color from that print.

LOOK #3 DATE NIGHT DRESS
Are you ready to throw a wild card into your love life? Tye-dye dresses of 2014 are a for sure heart breaker in the game of love, and will want your date or man pining for more.  Designers have made the tie dye dress more glamorous, sexy, and breathtaking than ever with unconventional cuts, exotic patterns, and luxe fabrics.
DAY: Wear a long maxi dress with no more than 3 colors within the color palette. Less is always more during the day when it comes to rocking out colors. Finish this look with wedges and tribal inspired jewelry.  If you are not down for rocking a maxi dress, try styles like scuba, skater, shift, or fit and flare.
NIGHT: For the night time date go for more fabric hugging dresses like body con, bandage, or midi. Complete your look with strappy heels and metallic jewelry.
STYLE TIP:  GO FOR EXOTIC OR MULTI-COLORED WITH THE PRINT: Wearing a tye dye dress calls for you to be a bit more wild with the prints. Don’t be afraid to take your notch up a style, and be a bit more fashion forward in the dress you choose.  Try to opt for an exotic or multi colored print that has at least 3 or more colors within the pattern. I did exactly that by choosing a multi colored midi dress with the colors green, yellow, red, and black.  I kept the shoe in a lighter hue of green-mint to bring another dimension to my look by incorporating two different shades of green. Since the print of the dress was eye catching, I wanted to keep the jewelry simple and light, so I wore a gold cuff, and tiny gold stud earrings.

LOOK #4 YOUNG HOLLYWOOD

Do you want to push your style to new heights, but get others talking too? Of course you do! Take a cue from celebs like Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, or Selena Gomez when it comes to pulling off this look. Whether you choose to wear it in the form of heels, or a clutch sporting a tye dye accessory is the easiest way to do this.

DAY:  Wear a tye dye scarf with your favorite denim and classic white button up shirt.

NIGHT:  Go for your favorite LBD or LWD and pair with a tye dye clutch or heel.

STYLE TIP: PAIR WITH SOLID COLOR ENSEMBLES
Add bit of unpredictability to solid color ensembles.   Pairing with solid color pieces and using tie-dye accessories, as a highlight to your overall look will make it more chic!
