TRANSLATING STYLE: FASHION BEYOND THE CUBICLE

No longer does work fashion consist of stuffy navy pantsuits, and basic black knee length dresses, but it has become more of a runway exhibition. Today, workplace fashion has never looked so fun with the ever-changing work climate, the concept has taken on a whole new facade. Between retailers inundating us with so many styles and organizations having different dress codes, it can be a daunting task for a person to pull together a stylish work wardrobe. With mounting pressure to standout, it’s imperative that you dress to the nines. Rather than walking a tightrope of your fashion being a career killer, I put together some work appropriate looks that will win over your office!

LOOK #1:  WRAP DRESS
The Look: In the office or not, you can’t go wrong with a classic wrap dress. Diane von Furstenberg made the wrap dress famous, and women around the world love her for it! It is a wardrobe essential. TIP : VERSATILITY: Choose a wrap dress that is versatile. One that can be worn in all settings, with a jacket, various accessories, or shoes. You can do this by staying away from crazy prints and opting for a solid color ensemble. You can still be on trend, by choosing colors that are hot for the season. To spice up the dress you can play around with the accessories, but remember if you add a fun statement necklace keep the shoes simple. Fashion and style is all about balance.

LOOK #2:  MIDI SKIRT
The Look: The midi has become the forefront of office sophistication. It is the perfect length for the office. Whether you pair it with high boots in the winter or heels in the summer you will come across so office chic! TIP: PERFECT PAIRINGS: To pull off this look it boils down to the pairing. If you wear a bold color midi, balance it with a neutral color blouse. As for a pleated and fuller option, which is on trend for spring 2014, keep the top simple, and fitted.

LOOK #3: LAYERING NEUTRALS
The Look: Sticking within the color family of neutrals is a great alternative to the traditional work suit. Light and airy, these soft colors are the perfect for the workplace. TIP: PLAY AROUND: Get creative by playing around with different fabrics and textures of skirts, pants, and tops. Adding textured pieces to a monochromatic look or layering in various tones will give you a neutral look, while you can break up the look through the right accessories and shoes.

LOOK #4: FIT-AND-FLARE
The Look: This style is a women’s secret weapon to looking amazing. A fit-and-flare dress always makes the torso appear longer and waist look leaner while making the legs and thighs appear slimmer. TIP: ENDLESS POSSIBLITIES: This is one style you can put your trademark on. Due to the standard silhouette and fit of this dress the possibilities are endless. Whether you choose a bold solid color, and add belt as I did above, or choose a fashion forward print, you can get as adventurous as you want with this look because most styles tend to run on the conservative side.

LOOK #5: PEPLUM
The Look: This style has remerged with a vengeance and has created a fashion frenzy, making this a miracle in any women’s closet. This style works great on everyone, all shapes and sizes of all ages. TIP: FIT AND STYLE: It’s important to choose a peplum that fits properly. When choosing a peplum top make sure the style sits on your hips and the hemline is at the smallest part of your waist so that creates the optimum shape. When pairing a peplum top choose pencil skirts and straight leg pants. Stay clear of anything with a flare bottom like a line skirts or pants that run wide at the bottom. In order make this work appropriate, but receive accolades at the same time, avoid choosing bold or fashion forward prints, and stick to solid color ensembles. Become more fashion forward with the accessories that you choose like a statement necklace, a contrasting color belt, or a unique shoe.
