HEEL APPEAL: THEY REALLY DO A FASHIONISTA GOOD !

Heels are to a fashionista, as milk is for your body. Not literally, but similar to the acclaimed tagline, “Milk Does a Body Good,” so does a new pair of heels every season or two, does wonders to a fashionista’s wardrobe. While drinking milk provides amazing benefits to our bodies, on the contrary wearing heels can bring quite the opposite effects-tight, sore, uncomfortable, and occasionally down right dangerous, resulting in sometimes back, knee, and foot pain.  So the question becomes why are we so heel obsessed knowing the possible downside. I can tell you! Because women from all over the world, including myself can’t get enough of this feel good item.  Shows like “Sex in the City” and “Real Housewives” feed into this frenzy showing how heels are an instant game changer in fashion and really do any fashionista good! They draw attention, elongate your legs, add height, make you appear thinner, enhance confidence, and can add a “wow factor” to any look.  If you’re a slave to high heels or just need a pair for an upcoming event, I included some practical tips below to make sure you rock the perfect heels this season!

TIP 1: VERSATILITY -COLOR AND STYLE
Choose a color and style of a shoe that can go with at least three or more outfits within your wardrobe. As in the picture above, I wore a mint strappy heel with three different style dresses. From classic white to lemon and even tye dye print the shoe complemented each of these looks.

TIP 2: SEASONAL
With each season brings new trends. Ironically, buying a new heel seasonally can save you money within your wardrobe, because of the instant update that it adds to your existing pieces. In order to do this, buy a heel in mind that is a bit trendy, and speaks the season. I did exactly that by choosing a pastel color shoe, since pastels are huge this season, and opting for a strappy style since it’s summer time.

TIP 3: GET THE RIGHT FIT
Like anything in fashion it’s all the fit! This is specifically true with the heel. It’s important that your heel is not too small or too big. Take your time at the store trying them on. A little tip that has worked for me is taking a two-minute walk around the store to see how your feet and body feel.

TIP 4: COMFORT
Forget about the idea that you have to sacrifice comfort for style completely, instead manufacturers and designers today are coming out with heels that stylish and comfortable. Jessica Simpson’s shoe line is a classic example that redefines this idea. I recommend that you find a style with a slight platform under the toe area that tend to be more comfortable as they minimize the angle and pressure on the ball of the foot. Even though the shoe I wore was strappy heel, it had a platform so I was able to wear it comfortably all night long!

TIP 5: AVOID BUYER’S REMORSE
We all have bought something at one point in our life, and we looked at the item and thought, “What was I thinking, or better yet what planet was I on?” Unfortunately, I am quite familiar with this feeling, and it wasn’t until I had an epiphany 7 years ago during spring-cleaning when I was throwing away half my closet that I had finally learned my lesson.  It’s important to keep in mind three factors to avoid buyer’s remorse- price, trends, and versatility. Using these three factors when purchasing any heel or fashion item will prevent you from experiencing regret later down the road. Avoid anything too over the top, too trendy, too expensive, and that can’t be worn with at least 35% of your existing wardrobe.
