I’m going green this month,—and no, that doesn’t mean I’m going to start a campaign on environmental awareness or plant a vegetable garden , but I’m talking more of wearing the color green. Flashes of dark green to military green and cypress green have shifted from the runway to now the high street. This season expect to see this envious shade in everything from dresses to outerwear to tops and accessories too. I don’t know about you, but green to me has always been positive -trees, glowing ocean tones, green lucky charms, tropical flora and of course my favorite from Juice Generation-“Get your green on” …what’s not to love! Green is my thing, however liking and wearing it are different two different concepts. Many of us, including myself at one point may have struggled with this hue, however green has gotten a makeover this fall, and it’s more on trend than ever! It’s so avant-garde, but I’m telling you it’s easy to pull off. So forget about the beige, navy, and black , because I’m going to share with you 3 fall trends that prove it’s so easy to go green!
NEO-MINIMALISIM
For those of you who favor more classic and simple styles, this is the trend for you. However for the fast forward fashionista don’t fret, the good news is that with this trend clothes are delivered in such luxurious fabrics that you may forget how boring you look. This contemporary take on minimalism is becoming a fan favorite among A-listers. With a major focus on color, fabrics, and unique shapely silhouettes, this new trend is not only making a statement but a name in the fashion hall fame!
KEY ITEMS: Shift dresses, maxi dresses, rompers, jumpsuits, wrap coats, jackets, knitwear, woven trousers, heels, blouses, and skirts.
HOW TO GO GREEN
To incorporate into your own wardrobe the easiest way to start is through a dress or top. I'd suggest looking out for materials that are of chiffon, velvet, silk, cashmere, or satin. I did exactly that by finding a one-shoulder chiffon shift dress. Initially, I was drawn to this due to the fabric, and shapely silhouette, and of course not to mention this flattering shade-deep green!
STYLE TIP: ADD MORE DIMENSION IN A SUBTLE WAY
Since the dress already mimicked this trend so well, I wanted to not only accentuate this concept, but also add a bit of more dimension in a subtle way, but also create that good old pop factor!(refer back to my most recent article to find out what the pop factor is) My accent piece was my unique heel. It’s neutral hue(stone) complemented the overall color of the dress, while the caged tie detail added a bit of flair to this simple style. Finally, my “pop pieces” were in the form of a long gold-knotted necklace, and a gold cuff to play up the swinging 60’s theme, and create that “Pop!”
1950’S -LADYLIKE FASHION
Get ready to head to thrift stores or raid your grandma's closet because the 1950’s are back with a vengeance! Women's fashion during this era was a conservative twist of sexiness that is reminiscent of a 1950’s housewife. Take a cue from Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly who redefined style.
KEY ITEMS: Knee-length dresses and skirts, cardigans, cable knit sweaters, scarves, lady like bags, blouses, and knee length fit and flare style dresses, and statement jewelry.
HOW TO GO GREEN
To incorporate the 1950’s trend in the hue of green try to pick individual pieces that you can wear everyday. Look more towards those pieces like sweaters, blouses, skirts, or bags. Go for styles that are more classic and versatile so you can get maximum wear during the fall.
STYLE TIP: MIX THIS STYLE WITH AN EDGY ELEMENT
Throw a curveball with this trend and incorporate an edgy element to this theme. For example, if your wearing a knee-length green fit and flare dress then add a black moto style cropped leather jacket to create more of an edge.
SCHOOL GIRL UNIFORM
Want to stay forever young? I don’t know about you but every time I find pieces that pertain to this trend it brings me back to my high school days or reruns of watching one of my all time favorite movies, Clueless. Schoolgirl uniforms are given the high street treatment this season with so many combinations to pick from: matchy matchy to pleated mini skirt combinations to plaid inspired motifs. Whether you want to opt for a more scholarly look or get down with the punk style or valley girl looks from the 90’s there is an option for every fashionista! If you hesitant to embrace this trend from head to toe, start in small doses. Look for single pieces such as plaid skirts, knee high boots, fashion sneakers, or pleated skirts. Most importantly take note to have fun!
KEY ITEMS: Pleated skirts, plaid patterns, sweaters, cardigans, pleated dress, shirt dress, slogan shirts, collared shirts, vintage t-shirts, button downs, capes, fashion sneakers, tote or messenger bags, hair accessories, matching sets of both tops and bottoms, tag and charm type jewelry, and mary jane style shoes
HOW TO GO GREEN
Focus on one school inspired trend item, and make sure it it’s show stopping qualities are A plus! Go for something that is a centerpiece and that you can build your remainder of your look.( Refer back to my past article to find out what I define as the centerpiece if you haven’t been following)
STYLE TIP: INCORPORATE THE LUXE SPORTS TREND
Are you ready to give some of our favorite style icons like Rachel Zoe, Kim Kardashian, and Zoey Saldana a run for their money? The best way to get others talking when wearing this trend is to combine this theme with elements of the luxe sports trend. If you can pull off wearing these trends in a balanced way others will be taking style notes from you this season! Keep in mind when wearing more uniform tailored pieces try to balance it out equally with sporty athletic inspired elements. For example, take a solid color pleated skirt and put a slogan sweatshirt with a button up underneath and add solid color wedge type sneaker will do just the trick!
