Whether you’re a career girl, or full time mom there are many times when you may not be able to spend hours transforming your look from day to night. These days women tend to have a fairly hectic lifestyle. Most of us including myself have been in a situation where it’s that time of day and your work is coming to an end, and within the next hour you have a charity event, business meeting, or a romantic date with a guy that you have had a crush on forever, and you can’t make it home to tune up your look. So what does a fashionista do to avoid looking like that woman at a cocktail function in her day office-wear? Figuring out how to wear a dress all day long when you have an evening event can be quite the challenge. The good news is that I have my little black book of style to provide you with a few secrets that will make this one smooth transition, and did I mention that you may get a few heads turning too!
SECRET #1 : CHOOSE A BASIC STYLE DRESS
Finding dresses that can transition from day to night is a smart way to get more bang for your buck. When looking at day to night dresses, stick to styles that are simple and polished. Think sheath dresses, fit and flare, wrap, modern shifts, or skater style dresses. I did exactly that by opting with a fit and flare dress.
SECRET #2: CHOOSE SOLID COLOR DRESSES
So now that you know styles to look for, the next thing to keep in mind when picking a dress to transition from day to night would be sticking to solid colors. Choosing a solid color dress allows for more versatility which enables you to get more creative with the accessories.
SECRET #3: CHANGE OUT THE SHOES
This is essential to taking any look from day to night, especially when sporting a dress. Wearing flats or styles that are more casual during the day and swapping them out to heels or more embellished footwear will create a more formal look. From the picture above, I wore flat pink strappy shoes during the day and changed my look with a silver strappy embellished heel for night time.
SECRET #4: JAZZ UP THE ACCESSORIES
Besides the shoes, this is the second easiest way to take a look from evening to night. Wearing a statement necklace, choosing metallic or sparkly accessories, and of course changing out your handbag for a clutch will do the trick! During the day time, I focused on the using the color pink within the shoes and the belt as a contrasting color to highlight my look. On the other hand, to transition my look to nighttime I focused on using the color silver as central theme in both the shoes and belt to dress up my look. Not only were the shoes silver but they had crystal embellishment which added more of a glamourous feel to my look. Another option to jazz up my look even more would be adding a silver cuff and long silver earrings too.
SECRET #5 MAKE UP AND HAIR
If your in the office all day or out running errands and know that you won’t be returning home, keep a little bag with some makeup to retouch before you head out. Transition to a brighter lipstick for evening, or add darker color in your eye shadow. Also, it’s best to retouch up your face with concealer or powder so you can appear fresh. For evening, if you go bold with a lip, then stick to lighter shadow on the eyes, and same goes for a darker eye, then use a light pink or nude glossy lip to complement a darker eye. As for hair, I’m all about letting your hair down, however if your not a fan letting your hair down think simple up-do like a bun, or low side ponytail.
