With New York Fashion Week not too far around the corner, and Labor Day approaching, summer fashion is coming to halt, and you know what that means? Halloween, autumn leaves, apple picking, and of course the day after Thanksgiving- a die hard fashionista’s holiday within itself! So besides my favorite highlights of the season, fall is here and, ‘tis the season’ to make a style statement. Besides focusing in on fall trends, the easiest way to take your style to new heights is through color. It’s a no brainer when you’re stumped on what to wear the easiest solution to reach for is black, beige or navy. But to really step out this fall and get noticed wearing an entire ensemble of drab colors is out of the question. So I have looked to some of my favorite celebs for a little seasonal color inspiration. Read on to check out their attempted-and-authentic pairings so you can embrace color without looking like a rainbow lollipop!
ROCHELLE HUMES: MAROON AND PASTEL PINK
The Saturdays singer took a risk in a daring maroon lace bralet teamed with a pretty pleated pastel pink midi skirt and neutral sandals. I just love this look! For more conservative take, however I would have opted for a lavender scoop neck cropped tee paired with a pewter moto leather jacket.
TAYLOR SWIFT: CRÈME AND RED
Besides being a fan favorite in music, America’s sweetheart, Taylor Swift is winning accolades for her standout style. Most recently she walked the red carpet in this show stopping gown. This 1950’s inspired gown plays with the use of color so well. Expect to see sharp contrasts of color blocking this fall. The only element that I feel is missing from this look is the jewelry. I would have added an element of 1950’s inspired long earrings to frame her face and the neckline, along with a matching bracelet.
ALICIA QUARLES- COBALT AND BLACK
Alicia Quarles dazzled in this cobalt and black hounds tooth ensemble. Plaids, and square patterns are making a big debut this fall in an array of colors. I’m not feeling this look completely with her choice in both the shoes and the belt. To add more contrast and pop to the blue color I would have added a lighter grey hue for both the belt and the shoes. For the shoe style I would have went with a lighter looking pump versus the heavy style shoe that doesn’t really balance off this high-low dress style.
KIM KARDASHIAN: CRÈME AND OLIVE
One thing that Kim does so well is play with color. I love the cut and color of this skirt. Expect the color olive to be a huge hit this season. I do think she played this look a bit too safe by matching it with an ivory top and having no jewelry. The approach that I would have taken to her look is the monochromatic theme. Therefore, I would focus on finding a top in the olive hue that includes a higher neckline, but in a different texture. As for the shoe I would stick to the monochromatic use of green and opt for a deeper green hue in the form of a strappy heel to create that pop factor!
