Can you take a guess what’s the most wonderful time of the year for getting your fashion groove on? Well it’s not Christmas, but it’s the Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion week that takes over Manhattan like an epidemic every September. I got to thinking NYFW is really like a holiday within itself for any famous fashionista, style enthusiast, or fashionaholic such as myself! There are so many similarities between the commercial aspect of Christmas and New York Fashion week- both spend money around commercial advertising to build excitement and anticipation for what trends are slated to hit the stores, a wish list a mile long for what consumers want to get their hands on based on what’s forecasted to be hot, and a huge coming together as community to celebrate a time of growth and reflection. From a designer’s standpoint it’s an automatic must to look ahead in order to plan and create the best collections, but less then .1 percent of the population is an actual designer. I learned in life that one is more successful when they focus on the moment rather than looking too far ahead. Likewise, to make the most of your style today it’s best to concentrate on what celebrities are wearing this week right now! Forget the non-stop line of runway shows, and turn your focus on the moment for some style inspiration that can not only trickle into your thoughts but your fall wardrobe as well! Here are some of my favorite looks to get the creative juices flowing…..
DENIM ON DENIM : OLIVA PALMERO
Denim on denim is raging more than ever with school back, and the fall season just about here so what better way to take a cue then from the style icon herself, Olivia Palmero. She wears this ensemble so well by breaking it up through the accessories.
CLASSIC TAILORED SUIT : DAVID BECKHAM
In the game of fashion when in doubt it's best to stick with a classic color tailored suit as a safe bet! Off the field, David Beckham is taking the fashion world by storm with his strategic moves such as playing it safe by opting for a tailored classic color suit.
CLASSIC PIECES WITH A FRESH TWIST : NAOMI WATTS, NAOMIE HARRIS, AND KERRI RUSSELL
Naomi Watts and Naomie Harris sandwiched in fellow actress Keri Russell at NYFW while attending the Altuzzera for Target Launch. All three are wearing classic pieces: baby doll/empire dress, trench style coat, and a wrap dress. Harris wears a classic animal print dress with a fresh design in the pattern , whereas Russell wears a color block style trench, and Watts is sporting the deep jewel tone red which is huge for fall.
BURGUNDY: NATE RUESS
Nate Ruess executes this look to a perfect ten. The color burgundy in mens wear is exploding this fall. He does such a great job pairing shorter length navy trousers to complement the burgundy blazer. Take style note that shorter length trousers that fit around the ankle are really on trend for fall. He really does a great job creating balance and highlighting the blazer with his choice in colors for accent pieces. I love the no sock look with the dress shoes because it provides an ultra cool look for any modern day gent.
BLACK AND WHITE : JAMIE CHUNG, JENNIFER HUDSON, & LOUISE ROE
Black and white monochromatic styles are stronger than ever. From Jamie Chung ‘s mix and match of eclectic inspired pieces to Jennifer Hudson's White Romper and black boots to Louise Roe's matching separates of the plaid pattern there is so much inspiration to get from these looks.
SPORTY BOMBER JACKETS: NICK YOUNG, NAT WOLFF, & NICK JONAS
Sporty inspired pieces are having there hey day this fall and are not leaving anytime soon. Fan favorites among all celebrities are the bomber jackets. Whether you want to go with a more embellished look like Nick Young’s bomber with extra detail or go with the classic black bomber like Nat Wolff, or if you want to go out on a limb and add an extra edge like Nick Jonas in a red hue leather bomber jacket, the good news is that the notorious bomber comes in a variety of flavors no matter what your tastes are!
BEAUTIFUL IN BLUE: SARAH JESSICA PARKER AND MAGGIE GYLLENHAL
Sarah Jesssica Parker and Maggie Gyllenhal electrified the crowd in their blue pieces. Expect to see hues of blue, especially cobalt blue being a theme this fall and into winter. Whether you choose in a pattern, separate pieces, or wear from head to cobalt blue flatters all skin tones, and makes it super versatile to style and create other looks within your wardrobe.
