Do you Trick? Trick or treat that is! Trick or treating is no longer exclusive to my favorite Holiday of all time, Halloween, but lately I have being doing a bit of trick or treating not with candy, but with Fashion’s Peek-A-Boo Trend! With this trend, I love the fact that I’m trick or treating fashionista style all year round! Just hear me out, Like a magician, you can trick people into looking where you want by the texture of the fabric, the amount of sheer the garment has, or the placement of the cutout. Rather than satisfying your stomach with yummy candies, the treat is satisfying your appetite for eye-catching style! No matter what trick you prefer there is a treat for everyone to get their hands on! Read on to learn about trick or treats that can leave others stunned!
TRICK #1: CUT ABOVE THE REST!
Snipping away with a scissors has never looked so fun! Whether you want to sport in a cute top or an elegant dress like I did you can’t cut wrong!
TREAT #1: MONOCHROMATIC BLACK AND WHITE SYTLE
There is something so appealing about a beautiful chocolate and vanilla swirled marble cake. Start by cutting out the center of the cake in order to reach the sweetest spot! Likewise, with cutouts to really get the sweetest style is to cut out the nonsense of all other looks and get straight to the point in monochromatic black and white.
STYLE TIP: STRIKE A BALANCE
When your creating any look especially with cutouts it’s important to strike a balance where you have the cutout. Since my cutout was dead center in the upper area, I decided to balance that area with thick strappy open toed black laser heel shifting the focus to the bottom too. Instead of going with a closed solid heel I opted with the open toe strap concept to correlate with the cutout theme. Since the the top part design of the dress was so eye catching, I decided to keep it pretty basic with the jewelry by only wearing a metallic cuff and tiny silver studs.
TRICK #2 CROP TOP THAT!
This past year Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, and Rihanna have not only been chart topping each other but guess what they have been crop topping it! Just like stilettos, crop tops seem great in theory but when actually worn they may seem quite scary. This is one trick that can be easily worn by everyone. So don’t fear the crop top, designers have made this so ready to wear with looser fits, and when paired with higher waisted garments can look quite chic!
TREAT: TEXTURES
Besides my little love affair that I have with fashion, I do have thing for my chocolate especially one of kind truffles! My favorite part of getting a box of assorted truffles is biting into the creamy texture and guessing the flavor. With an array of different flavors and textures within assorted truffles you can possibly get lost in a chocolate coma by grappling with which one is your favorite. Similarly, with so many styles and takes on crop tops you may second-guess which style is your favorite. To have this style be so satisfying focus on textures like lace, chiffon, sequins, leather, crochet, and satin. After you decide upon the texture, focus on flavors that are bolder in taste and rich in color like cherry, raspberry, orange, blueberry, and grape. Once you find the perfect texture and flavor make sure you complete your look with a complementary pairing. I recommend going for high waisted garments such as shorts, pants, or skirts when rocking this!
TRICK #3 COLD SHOULDER ALREADY!
I don’t know about you but I love getting a cold shoulder or two! I’m talking the cold shoulder style of clothing that you actually put on, not the actual act of disregarding someone. In fashion, there are times when it’s necessary to embrace the cold shoulder for certain occasions. Likewise, in life sometimes it necessary to give a “cold shoulder” to those that bring you down rather than up, so always choose wisely when deciding to sport the cold shoulder. No matter what age or shape you are there is a cold shoulder top or dress for every fashionista!
TREAT: SILOUHETTE/STYLE
No autumn is complete without the art of making yummy caramel apples! When styling or performing any task I’m all about doing something in an uncomplicated way to achieve great results. The cold shoulder shows just the right amount of skin without overkill, just like the caramel apple is the perfect balance of healthy and dessert wrapped up into one! It’s important that the cold shoulder cut fits you like a glove, whether you’re wearing a fitted version or a looser one. With the dipping of the caramel apple it’s important that you pick the toppings that go with your tastes. Similarly, go for styles that are easy to work in with your everyday lifestyle. I recommend going with neutral colors like white, navy, grey, or black because they allow for the greatest range of versatility within your wardrobe.
