Are you ready to make a jump this fall? Don’t be scared, it’s not jumping off diving boards or planes, or evening jumping rope at the gym, but I’m talking jumping into VIP style with the good old jumpsuit! I have done all of the above and none measure up to the thrill of wearing a black jumpsuit for evening! Forget the lbd this fall, and think of 2014 as the Hot Release Party for welcoming the Little Black Jumpsuit! So if your ready to have the red carpet waiting for you in this playsuit, then get your iPad out to take these style notes into consideration when jumping into VIP Style this fall!
DESIGN WITHIN REASON
Like the little black dress, always design within reason when looking for the perfect staple of the black jumpsuit. With this in mind, it’s important that you look for black style jumpsuits that you can wear multiple times. Go for cuts that flatter your figure as well complement your lifestyle. Just like that little black dress, the jumpsuit needs to groove to the rhythm of your lifestyle! When looking for my perfect black jumpsuit I opted for a strapless plunging neckline because I wanted to show off my décolletage as well as a style that would be a replacement for the lbd.
FOCUS ON FABRICS
Besides focusing on silhouettes, another way to make a statement VIP style is focusing on the fabric. Since Neo-Minimalism is a huge theme this fall, you can focus more on luxury fabrics like satin, silk, chiffon, and lace when searching for your jumpsuit.
THE BATTLE OF MONOCHROMATIC VS. COLOR
Just like that scoop of plain chocolate ice cream you need to figure out if you want to add color sprinkles to it. When wearing black head to toe it’s important to figure out if you want to add a touch of color through the accessories or stick to black. If you do choose to splash color, focus on one color to keep unity which will enable you to highlight remarkably around the dazzling black jumpsuit. I focused on the color red since it’s one of my favorites and it’s also super-hot this fall as the color to be wearing. Incorporating red as the accent pieces created a striking contrast to the beautiful silhouette of the jumpsuit.
LET THE ACCESSORIES TELL A STORY
Rather than letting the jumpsuit initiate the conversation, lead with the accessories. This is going to be the difference between stellar style and just someone donning a black jumpsuit. Whether you go for color like I did, or prefer to focus on an all black theme always choose eye-catching accessories. A style note to keep in mind is to let the accessories tell a story. So I’m not talking the fairytale story, but have one accessory act as a big beginning, another accessory act a steady but subtle middle, and the final accessory be that great ending! I will give you the detailed example with my look. My beginning was the eye-catching design of the red heels, the middle part was the gold dangly earrings and thick gold cuff, and the ending to my story was the show stopping red clutch with the unique gold detailing. This is a styling technique that I love to use in achieving balance with solid color looks while creating amazing contrast around the ensemble. This is a great style technique for everyone to use when styling any black ensemble.
DETAILED BREAKDOWN OF THE PERCENTAGE
1. BIG BEGINNING -45% of the focus should be on this accessory
2. STEADY BUT SOFT MIDDLE-15%
3.CAPITVATING BUT HAPPY ENDING! Remember every great story always has a memorable and fantastic ending! 40%
LAYER WHEN NEEDED
Sometimes when making a tiered cake you may need to add extra layer to make it work! Similarly, with a black jumpsuit depending if you are taking it from work to a night out, you may need to add a blazer, or jacket to make it work appropriate. Any time you add a layer it changes the whole dynamic of the look. It’s best to stick within the hue of black for whatever you choose to layer with. Therefore, you don’t have to redo the story of the accessories, whereas if you choose to sport a color jacket then you would need to start over with your story!
