The panel is in with the verdict for getting on the fast track with style this fall, and it has to do with your pants. Spring 2014 was all about the floral pants, but as beautiful flowers from spring die to make way for rich autumn leaves, a new pant trend emerges: The Paneled Pants. For many of you that may not be familiar with this trend it’s a pair of skinnies, leggings, palazzos, or culottes with a color-blocked panel. The panel can be either the same color or contrasting color, but you can also find pants with sequin or lace panels too. Slowly, the panel pants especially side-panels which are commonly reserved for menswear and formal occasions are becoming the new normal. However, with anything new it’s always good to find out as much information before being so quick to jump on board. This trend may seem quite difficult to pull off for newbies, but before you decide to throw in the axe, I have racked my brain and have come up with a few quick reasons to make you say Yay rather than Nay for this avant garde trend!
#1 PROVIDES THE ILLUSION OF A LONG AND LEAN FRAME
Whether you sport the panel on a solid tone pants or print, the stripe or panel provides the illusion of a long and lean frame. Go with darker panels like I did in black, navy, or grey to provide a double dose of the slimming effect.
#2 ADDS INSTANT STYLE
If you are looking for a quick fix to some of your “Plain Jane” clothes then this style is the perfect solution. Not only did it make my outfit edgy, it added an extra oomph of style!
# 3 ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES FOR STYLING
The possibilities of styling these pants are infinite! Whether you choose to wear a color block style top like I did to keep in alignment with the color block theme ,or if you choose to wear a solid color black cold shoulder shirt, you can get as creative as you like. Remember a style note to keep in mind when picking paneled pants is to focus on neutral hues like grey, blue, brown, or black because they allow for greater range of pairing different color combinations.
# 4 CREATES VERSATILITY WHEN CHOOSING ACCESSORIES
Before trying this trend I thought it would be very difficult to style, but after I did my research I found the styling was quite easy. There was so many accessories of mine that I could have used from my wardrobe that went with this look. Even though there is a great range of versatility when styling accessories, it's important to always strive for unity. I did exactly that by focusing on the colors gold and black in the bracelet, clutch, and shoes.
#5 STAND OUT FOR ALL THE RIGHT REASONS
This is one trend that will definitely get you noticed for all the right reasons. This style is one that takes creativity, confidence, and thinking out of the box to pull off! Remember it’s easy to rock a pair of plain pants, but to go out and rock something very different takes confidence, trusting your intuition, and most importantly believing in yourself. In my book that’s an automatic 10 for style! So are you Yay?
